The Beauty and the Rubbish.

Updated: May 10, 2021

A few weeks ago, a swell passed by our beach. It was brought by heavy winds that were close to another cyclone this year. Fortunately enough, it slowed down before vanishing on the surface of our indian ocean. However, it did leave some footprints. The very clear and unique footprints of human beings. The footprints of overpopulation, pollution and carelessness.

It was a beautiful morning after the winds calmed down and we finally went to the beach again. As we run down the dune to the beach, it hit us. Our beautiful and ever so tranquil Backdoor Beach had turned into a landfill. The usual view of the endless coastline was more frustrating than anything else, and a quick run proofed to be right. There was not a spot that was not covered by either bottle caps, lighters, tooth-brushes or those glow sticks.
